چکیده

In comparison to temperate and arid regions, environmental responses the Last Glacial Maximum Terminal Pleistocene Holocene boundary remain poorly known for many parts of tropics, making it challenging unravel human–landscape interactions across this timeframe. This is particularly case in insular Near Oceania, where sea-level fluctuations potential changes forest cover may have had major impacts on hunter–gatherer populations. Here, we apply stable carbon oxygen isotope analyses small-mammal teeth from four Pleistocene–Holocene (spanning 29 000 years ago late Holocene) sequences Bismarck Archipelago reconstruct environments directly exploited by human populations part world. Our results show a subtle response tropical habitats Oceania relatively conditions during late-glacial period, something that has also been observed at sites South Southeast Asia, followed expansion cover. Nevertheless, site-based variability period highlight need more multidisciplinary studies occupation region becoming increasingly central exploring adaptations, modifications social network development over past 20 years.

Assessing enzyme activities using stable isotope labeling and mass spectrometry.

Activity-based protein profiling has emerged as a valuable technology for labeling, enriching, and assessing protein activities from complex mixtures. This is primarily accomplished via a two-step identification and quantification process. Here we show a highly quantitative and streamlined method, termed catch-and-release activity profiling of enzymes (CAPE), which reduces this procedure to a s...

Assessing migration patterns of sharp-shinned hawks Accipiter striatus using stable-isotope and band encounter analysis

Intraspecific migration patterns in birds have both spatial and temporal components. Two commonly reported spatial patterns are leap-frog and chain migration. Temporal migration patterns refer to the timing of migration of populations from different breeding latitudes. We investigated the spatial and temporal migration patterns of hatching-year (HY) sharp-shinned hawks Accipiter striatus of int...

Stable Isotope Application in Animal Nutrition Science

The application of stable isotope analysis (SIA) has become a standard scientific approach in Agricultural and Ecological researches and, more in general, in several disciplines such as biology, botany, zoology, organic chemistry, climatology, and nutrition. The main objectives of this paper are (1) to provide a simple definition of stable isotopes and (2) to illustrate analytical measurement m...
